By embarking on your apprenticeship, you’ll be taken on a fascinating journey to becoming a paper technologist. You’ll get to know every important material, machine and work step up close and first hand. In your first year, you’ll be right in the thick of things, helping in the pulp preparation process, while also learning through quality testing what really counts when it comes to paper. The second year is even more exciting: you get to train to receive your crane operator’s licence, a major step as you progress through your apprenticeship. And you get very up close and familiar with our gigantic PM4 and PM6 paper machines, the centrepiece of our company. Your third year will be spent living the everyday working life of a paper technologist. Shift change! You’ll be working side by side in shifts with experienced colleagues. It doesn’t get any more practical than this.
You’re missing school? This comes in blocks. And that means: off to the Black Forest to the papermaking school in Gernsbach. Here, you’ll spend time in a residential school learning with other budding paper technologists from across the country. And if you want to get back home for the weekend, just grab the next train at our expense!

“My dad has been a KÄMMERANER for over 20 years now. He was the one who advised me do the apprenticeship. At first, I was a little apprehensive, but so far I’ve seen a benefit every single day. Paper manufacturing is demanding and varied. The time spent away at school was also a very special experience; away from home for an extended time. It’s been loads of fun learning with lots of other papermakers and swapping notes.”
